Evelyn Tims peacefully went to be with the Lord on February 11, 2026. A devoted Christian, loving mother, and cherished grandmother, she found her greatest strength and joy in her faith and her family.
Evelyn was born on May 28, 1935, in Idabel, Oklahoma, to Rev. Isaac and Alice James. As the eldest of eight children, she embraced responsibility early and carried a nurturing spirit throughout her life. She graduated from Idabel High School, where she was active in basketball, softball, and the Glee Club—early signs of the vibrant energy and joyful spirit that would define her life.
Evelyn married the love of her life, the Rev. Sampson Tims, on November 26, 1958. Their loving union was blessed with seven cherished children: Lee, Nathan, Susie, Andrea, Michael, Marvin, and Christine, each of whom brought immeasurable joy to their lives.
Her faith was the foundation of everything she did. Evelyn faithfully served within her church and church conference and was active in women’s ministries for many years. She retired from Saint Anthony’s Hospital after years of dedicated service. A devoted member of Mary Lee Clark United Methodist Church, she generously served on numerous committees and was always ready to lend a helping hand—especially in the kitchen. Her church family meant the world to her, and she treasured every opportunity for fellowship.
A phenomenal cook, Evelyn poured her heart into every meal she prepared. Her kitchen was a gathering place filled with comfort, laughter, and love—the true heart of her home. She especially cherished the fellowship of the Wild Onion Dinners and the special memories made during Camp 8 adventures.
Nothing brought Evelyn greater joy than her family. She delighted in watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in sports and activities, cheering them on with unwavering pride. A devoted sports fan, she enjoyed basketball, football, and softball, but nothing made her smile brighter than cheering for her beloved Oklahoma City Thunder and Oklahoma Sooners.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Sampson Tims; her son, Nathan Tims; her parents, Rev. Isaac and Alice James; her brothers, Dalton, Norris, Manuel, and Neal; and her sisters, Anneice James and Hazel Forbit.
She leaves to cherish her memory her baby sister, Cledith Harding; her children, Lee Tims, Susie Tims, Andrea (Gene) Joslin, Michael Tims, Marvin Tims, and Christine Tims (fiancé Eric Archer); her grandchildren, Kathryn (Chase) Hagan, Brandon Tims, Cheyenne Joslin, Olivia Tims, and Victoria Shatswell; and her great-grandchildren, Kaden Tims, Jaxon Tims, Damien Shatswell, Jahvon Tims, Kloe Tims, Elijah Tims, and Islam Tims, along with a host of extended family, church family, and friends who will forever treasure her love and legacy.
Evelyn’s life was a testament to faith, service, and unconditional love. Her legacy will continue to shine brightly in the lives of all who were blessed to know her.
