

Helen Louise (Burkhart) McClung passed away on October 27th 2017 after several months of health challenges, her devoted daughter, Clara, at her bedside. Helen was born September 25th, 1927 in Oklahoma City to William and Georgia Mae Burkhart, the oldest of six children. She graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1945. She worked in the secretarial pool at Mideke Supply Company before marrying the love of her life Devota “Mac” McClung on September 18, 1948 and settling in Del City. She and Mac had two children, Mark and Clara. Helen was a devoted stay at home mother enjoying taking care of her family, working as a PTA member and homeroom mother, and active in her church. She was a great cook and no one could surpass her fried chicken or homemade chicken noodles which all enjoyed during the holidays. When Mac retired they enjoyed many years of travel and adventure. They spent many days at Port Aransas TX visiting family and friends and enjoying catching all types of fish. Beginning in the early 1990’s, they began traveling each year to USS Signet Reunions all across the country, from New York to Portland and many places in between. She also was able to visit Hawaii which she said was the most beautiful place she had ever seen. Helen was blessed with four wonderful grandchildren – Jonah, Lucas, Rachel, and, Emily and was proud of the accomplishments each undertook. She was the doubly blessed with four great-grandsons, Shane, Kade, Kody, and Maverick. Helen loved her family dearly and devoted her life to caring for them all. Helen was preceded in death by her husband Mac, her son, Mark, her parents, and brothers Billy and Joe. She is survived by her daughter Clara Terranova and husband Pete, granddaughters Rachel and Emily Terranova, her daughter-in-law Teri Nichols-McClung, grandsons Jonah McClung and wife Amanda, Lucas McClung and great-grandsons Shane, Kade, Kody and Maverick McClung, her sisters Adoree Carr and Sue Ann Manley, brother Art Burkhart and wife Wanda, and brother-in-law Dale Wakelee. Helen will be dearly missed by her family. Her family would like to express their thanks to the caring staff at St. Anthony Hospital and Accel at Crystal Park for their devoted care to Helen in her last days. Service will be at 10am on Monday October 30th at Sunny Lane Southern Baptist Church, 4500 SE 31 Street, Del City, OK 73115. A viewing will be held at Sunny Lane Funeral Home 4000 Se 29th Street Del City, OK on Sunday October 29th from 2pm to 4pm. If preferred, donations can be made to the Sunny Lane Southern Baptist Church Building Fund.
