Jim Laib went to be with the Lord October 4, 2026 at his home in Moore, Oklahoma. He was born on October 13, 1943 in Roscoe, South Dakota. Jim graduated high school from Red Oak, Oklahoma. After high school Jim moved to Oklahoma City and went to work for the Oklahoma National Stockyards. He worked his way up the ladder at the Stockyards and retired after 51 years. Shortly after moving to Oklahoma City, Jim married Johnnie Ann Bates and they had 5 children. In 1988 Jim married June and they made their home in Moore, Oklahoma.
Jim & June enjoyed traveling together. Throughout the years they were able to travel to all 50 states. June was faithfully by Jim’s side taking great care of him during the last several years as his health declined.
Jim was a member of Southwest Baptist Church in Oklahoma City for more than 30 years. He and June attended and served regularly until his health wouldn’t allow. Even then they were faithful to always watch the livestream services.
In his younger years Jim participated in rodeos as a bull rider and steer wrestler. Jim coached his boys’ little league baseball and football teams and also coached his daughter’s softball team for many years. Many of the “kids” Jim coached stayed in contact with him throughout all these years, still calling him Coach or Mr. Laib. Jim was an avid sports fan with a great love for the Oklahoma Sooners, Chicago Cubs and the Green Bay Packers.
The only things Jim loved more than sports were the Lord, June, his children, and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren
Jim was preceded in death by his parents John and Anna Laib, son Jimmy Dale Laib and granddaughter Shandi Hatfield.
Jim is survived by his wife June Laib; children Brian Laib (wife Karen), Brad Laib (wife Susan), Brent Laib, Brandi Keeton (husband Ron) and Shelly Hatfield (husband Doug); grandchildren Brandon, Josh, Kelsey, Hannah, Brienna, William, Maya and Nick; great-grandchildren Claire, Jack, Josie, Sullivan and A.J.; his sister Gloria Braasch and many family and friends.
