James Houston Phillips, 73, passed away on April 4, 2016 in Choctaw, Oklahoma. He was born on March 17, 1943 in Oxford, Alabama to Parker and Lillie Mae (Poore) Phillips. For many years, he longed to return to his sweet home Alabama. James devoted his life to his family and to providing for them. He was a business owner of a construction company. He was hardworking, a man of integrity that enjoyed carpentry work. James was the type of person that even if he wasn't “at work”, he was working on something. He freely gave of his time to family and neighbors doing all kinds of different projects. He was kind, friendly and never knew a stranger. He made friends anywhere he went.
Later in life, he enjoyed researching genealogy, which led him to reunite with distant relatives all over the world. He treasured these relationships. It can't be put into words what a good man the world has lost. –
James enjoyed any time he could spend with his children and grandchildren whether it be working, fishing, Saturday afternoon haircuts, working on cars, or helping with household projects. He loved to dance and it didn’t matter if it was in the living room or the aisle at Lowes. His greatest love was his family; he always put family first.
Lovingly greeting James in heaven is his wife, Linda; daughter, Gina Marie; his parents; two brothers, and a dear uncle.
He will be greatly missed and always remembered by his children, James (Dawna), Robert, Tessie (Adam), Dhyanna; brothers, Ronnie, Billy Joe, Randy, Lee; grandchildren, James (Amber), Dustin (Hannah), Derek (Samantha), Amber (Levi), Caleb (Marcella), Emma, Tiffany (James); six great grandchildren; niece, Brenda, and many loving family and friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Suresh Chandrasekaran and Dr. Gary Dubois for their care and concern along this final journey.
Arrangements under the direction of Sunny Lane Funeral Home, Del City, OK.
