He served in the U.S. Air Force over 24 years and retired as a MSGT, and also worked as a supervisor. He fought in the Vietnam War three times receiving various awards including a bronze medal. After retiring from the military, James worked for the federal government at TAFB for over 15 years. James obtained an associate’s degree at Rose State College while in the air force.
James is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Yong Sherrill, three children, Terry, Tommie, and Janet Sherrill, four grandchildren, Lauren Roberts, Steven Alexander, and Alexis Sherrill, one brother, one sister, nephew, Chris Sherrill, and a host of other nieces, and nephews.
James was a very hard working man who worked and provided for his family all his life. He was a good hearted man and a protector for his family and especially loved his grandchildren.
Daddy, thank you for being the best Dad and Grandfather a girl could have. I will never forget your selflessness, and unwavering love you’ve shown me. I’ll love for you forever Daddy. Love Janet
