

J.W. Vance Jr., 78, passed away on April 15, 2015. J.W. was born on February 10, 1937 in Hamlin, TX to J.W. and Alene Vance (Robinson). J.W. loved being outside whether it was gardening in his vegetable garden, fishing, or camping with friends and family. He was a member of the United State Air Force from 1955-1964. He was a long time member of the Eastside Church of Christ. In his later years, J.W. liked to embroider and even embroidered blankets for his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael Carter; and sister, Betty Kowske. Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Melba Vance; children, Thomas Vance (Karen), Jeffery Vance, Susan Estell (Jeff), Michael Vance, Rick Carter (Laura), Gary Carter (Sondra), and Alan Carter; 21 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sister, Willene Vance; 5 nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins. A visitation will be held, Saturday and Sunday April 18-19, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00-8:00 Saturday. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 20, 2015 at Eastside Church of Christ with interment to follow, Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at Laurel Land Memorial Park in Dallas, TX.
