Lawrence was born January 3, 1932, to George & Ella Coley, south of El Reno. His parents moved the family back to Pottawatomie County, to the Coley home place. When Lawrence was 1 year old, he attended a one room school for one year. The family then moved to Macomb, Ok for one year. The family moved to Minco, OK to a farm in 1940, where he attended school till he graduated in 1950. He was a member of the service Battery 158 Field artillery 45 infantry division. The division was mobilized for active duty in July-August and was sent to Camp Polk for basic training. In March or April 1951, the division was sent to Japan for more training. In Dec. 1951, Sgt. Coley was sent to Korea where he spent the next 7 months. He and the remaining men from Minco, OK was sent home. In June 1952, thru Sasaka, Japan, where they stayed for two weeks. He and the remaining members arrived at Ft. Sill, OK on July 14, he was discharged.
He married his long- time girlfriend Delores June Cummings on December 17, 1952. From this union two daughters were born Vickie Lynn & Robin Denise. He and Delores were married for 67 years. Delores passed away Dec. 11, 2018. They had seven grandchildren, as well as great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
