Lela Eyvonne “Von” was born in Montgomery, Alabama to her late parents, Henry and Lela Knight. She was raised and educated in Montgomery with her two late brothers Howard and Charles Knight. She met the love of her life, Albert “Al” Horges, in 1972 in Montgomery where he served in the United States Air Force. They married in March 1973 and recently celebrated their union of 51 years.
On March 12,1981, the couple was blessed with a beautiful baby girl, LaTonya. She was a bright light in their lives. Now complete, the Horges family was transferred from South Carolina to their last military assignment in Oklahoma City, where they became active and cherished members of their community.
Von loved being a wife and mother. She filled her home with love and was there for her family in every way. She immersed herself in supporting her gifted daughters’ many talents and raised her to be a successful and kind woman. LaTonya departed this world on September 24th, 2020.
She was creative and great at many things. Von loved working with her hands. She created beautiful pottery pieces and took great pride in her homemaking skills. Anyone who knew her knows that Von was a great cook. She prepared the most scrumptious dishes— from scratch. Not only delicious, but every dish was a work of art.
Von also fed the souls of her friends and family. Despite the distance, she always kept a connection to her Alabama roots. A woman of wisdom, she was a great listener and gave sage advice. She had a giving spirit and helped her family, friends, and community wherever and whenever she was needed.
Mrs. Horges loved her husband Al. No doubt that God made those two for each other. She had a loving way to say his name to let him know exactly what she wanted or needed him to do. There love is eternal.
Von departed this world on July 1st, 2024. Memories of her are also in the hearts of her surviving brothers, Edward Tolliver and Hank Knight; mother in-law, Ruby Williams; son-in-law, Travis Pentzer; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Von will forever be loved and missed. Rest in Peace Dear Von!
