Lydia Esther Torres-Figueroa was born on February 26, 1933 in Arecibo, Puerto Rico to Juan Torres and Rosario Figueroa. She had nine siblings, Ramón, Gilberto, Waldemar, Blanca, William, German, Ana Lydia, Elba Iris and Carmín Torres. Lydia, age 87, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on March 13, 2020 in Midwest City, Oklahoma.
Lydia graduated from Escuela superior de Arecibo. She loved to travel back home to Puerto Rico and also California and Texas to be with family. Lydia moved to many different places. She lived in Arecibo and Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, New York, Massachusetts, Florida and Oklahoma. While living in New York, she lived with family and met Juan Torres, a United States Air Force aircraft mechanic, whom she married at age 24. They had three children; Sidney Torres, Reinaldo Torres and Lourdes María Torres.
Lydia loved God and was a devout Christian. She spent her time reading the Bible and being a prayer warrior, praying for her family every day. She attended church at Sunnylane Methodist Church in Del City and later Iglesia Sendas de Vida in Oklahoma City. You could often catch her singing or knitting hats and scarves for her family and friends. Lydia was blessed to be a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Lydia is preceded in death by her parents, Juan and Rosario, brothers, Waldemar, William, Ramón, Gilberto and sisters Blanca, Ana Lydia and Elba Iris.
Her memory will continue to be cherished by her children, Sidney Torres, Lourdes M. Torres, Reinaldo and wife Haydée Torres; brother German Torres, sister Carmín Tirado-Torres and their families; grandsons, Héctor Iován Grajales and wife Jessie, Odlanier (Danny) Grajales and wife Malissa, Terry Whitmore and Raúl Torres; great grand-children, Gabriel Grajales, Julianna Grajales, Emmalee Grajales, Lillia Grajales, Ruby Grajales, Sean McFarland, Emma Leigh McFarland and Natalee McFarland, as well as longtime friends, Dr. Aníbal Ávila and wife Lizette and María Figueroa.
