

Marion "Buck" Whitehurst, 95, passed away on March 22, 2016 in Oklahoma City, OK. He was born on July 25, 1920 in Searcy, AR to Marion O. and Donnie (Arrant) Whitehurst. He later served five years in the U.S. Army during the WWII era. Buck worked at the Prestolite Battery plant for 35 years.
Buck was a hardworking man who was determined to provide an enjoyable life for his family. He was a man true to himself, through and through. He spoke his mind with truth and conviction.
Buck enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was also an avid Razorback fan. Besides his family, his passion was working in his vegetable garden. If you were fortunate enough to get some of his canned green beans, beets, chow-chow relish, and hot sauce, you knew how good they were. He jokingly said, “The Army taught me to cook” and he was an excellent cook and his family has fond memories of his culinary skills, especially his barbecue brisket.
He married the love of his life, Mary Buie. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary of 71 years; children, Roberta (Dwight) Thompson, Richard (Patricia) Whitehurst, Robert Steve Whitehurst; sister, Hallie Williams; brothers, Harvey and Austin Whitehurst; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
