Maudie worked for many local Oklahoma City businesses during her lifetime as a Comptometer operator. She worked for Kraft Foods, Wilson and Co. and Scrivners During the winter she would pick up an extra job doing inventory for Norma Jolly Inventory Service to earn extra money at Christmas for her girls. She spent 30 years with the Oklahoma Tax Commission as a Senior Auditor and loved working with people and developed many longtime friendships. Several fellow employees speak of her as their second Mom. She was very compassionate and giving. When someone at work no longer had time left and had a sick loved one she voluntarily donated her vacation time to people she didn't even know.
Maudie fought a courageous lengthy battle against cancer. She came from a large family of ten. One brother and nine girls. Her illness left her limited on taking trips with her sisters and husband visiting small Oklahoma towns. They all enjoyed looking for their Ancestry visiting small graveyards and court houses on their trips to the small towns in Arkansas. She also loved going to her sister’s cabin for the weekend getaways. She loved growing her vegetable gardens each year but the last year she ordered the plants but was unable to plant them. Her favorite trip she took was with her daughter to Branson, Missouri and wished she could return someday. She loved going to estate sales and garage sales with her sisters.
She loved the birthday celebrations where her brothers and sisters would get together and visit and just listening to them seemed like they were all talking at the same time. It seemed more like a tennis match trying to keep up with the different conversations about what was going on in their lives.
She also joined a painting group in Norman which kept her very busy at least a couple nights of the week. Her art would vary from fruit, flowers, people, and churches. She loved the Thomas Kinkade paintings. She would always say "We could do that" to her daughter and they would just laugh like they needed another project.
These last few months have been spent with wonderful friends and family and othrs who helped her around her home. Our family wishes to thank Alliance Home Health and the wonderful employees that came weekly to encourage Mom. She got to know them well and would joke with them in her usual manner. Also, thanks to Home Care Assistance who found the right person to help Mom at home. We appreciate all the love and support!
