Nellie Jo (Holcomb) Hawthorne was born April 11, 1934 in Weleetka, Oklahoma, the daughter of Cecil and Josie (Mote) Holcomb. She passed from this life November 23, 2019 in Oklahoma City, at the age of 85 years. Nellie and Leo Hawthorne were united in marriage on September 16, 1950 in Reno, Nevada. They came to Oklahoma City from Wilburton in 1951. Nellie retired from Safeway/Homeland after 42 years of service in the meat department. She enjoyed sewing, crochet, making floral arrangements and working puzzles. She loved to spend time with her family and was a member and Treasurer of Oriole Rebekah for many years. She was also a member of the LEA OKC #4. Nellie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Jerry Hawthorne; sister Itha Moye and brother Aaron Holcomb. She is survived by her children, Lisa Hawthorne and wife Kinsey Davis of Moore and Roger Hawthorne and wife Cheryl of Oklahoma City; brother, Cecil Wayne Holcomb and wife Vera of Talihina; sister-in-law, Eddyebelle Holcomb of Texas; grandchildren, Alicia, Tammy, Terry, Sherry, Brant, Brody, Ty and Jerald; 14 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren and a special daughter-in-law, Diana Kelley. The family would also like to express their appreciation for the kind and compassionate care given by Good Shepherd Hospice and Patty Humbles of Oklahoma Heart Hospital. Visiting hours will be Tuesday, November 26 from 1pm to 5pm and Wednesday, November 27 from 8am to 8pm. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 29, 2019 at 2pm in the Chapel of Sunny Lane Funeral Home.

She was a very great friend to my sister, Velma Packard. She called and talked to her all the time. Also went places together She also came to her funeral. Plus I, kept in touch with after my sisters passing. they are together again catching up. Sorry, I'm able to attend the funeral because I live in Texas.
