Norene attended and graduated Valedictorian from Coalgate High School in 1944 and went on to attend Oklahoma A & M in Stillwater, Oklahoma - now OSU. After a few years of college, Norene met Willie Washburn, who would go on to become her husband in 1946. In 1949, Norene and Willie gave birth to their first child William, and in 1953, their second son, Mark. Willie had been drafted in 1944, but his Air Force career would take the family all over the U.S., even to England for a short time – stories both Norene and Willie loved to regale. Until retirement, Norene worked as a Data Processor for the Oklahoma Tax Commission, but early on in life, she worked diligently to learn shorthand, which she would recall and share with her grandchildren over the years. Norene had a never-ending love of sewing and was known for working on all sorts of creations, including most of her own clothing. Norene was a very charitable and kind woman with a wonderful sense of humor who will be greatly missed.
