She was born on October 8th 1933, to William Edward and Lona Wood in an area of Choctaw, Oklahoma that was, at that time, known as Wright Station.
Reena attended Choctaw High School, and was a prominent member of the highly decorated Choctaw High School Yellow Jackets girls’ basketball team. In addition to that and other sports, Reena kept busy working hard, helping her many brothers and sisters on the family farm, and also beating up all of the local boys who crossed her.
Somehow city boy Ray Smith avoided that fate, and convinced his little “Winkie” to marry him on August 19th, 1950.
Nothing in this world lit up Reena’s face with a smile of sheer joy more than her love of little children, and after years of struggling to have kids, Ray and Reena finally conceived a child of their own. Michael was born in December of 1964.
Little “Mikey’s” memories of his time growing up included a mother who would do almost anything for her young son. He could say the nicest thing about his parents that any child could ever say: that he grew up knowing he was loved, and that his parents loved the Lord.
After her husband’s retirement from Tinker Air Force Base, Reena joined him in a few odd jobs that included her Camp Cook to his Camp Director at Cedar Hills Baptist Youth Camp, and her Grandy’s Granny to his Grandy’s Maintenance Man at Grandy’s Restaurant. Mike still remembers all of those incredible cinnamon rolls that “Granny” brought home at the end of her shift. During this time, they also indulged their love of travel, which included planes, trains and automobiles, as well as the occasional cruise ship. After that, Reena settled into a life of coddling and cuddling her grandchildren Daina Kringlen and Abigail Smith, and her great-grandchildren Cadence Kringlen and Wyatt Kringlen. Reena had finally found her dream job.
Like her husband Ray, Reena knew and loved Jesus Christ, and the three of them are together now, inviting the rest of us to join them in eternity.
“We love you Mom, and we can’t wait to see you again soon.”
Reena is survived not only by her aforementioned grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but also her son Michael Smith and his wife Amy, and countless other extended family.
She was preceded in death by, among others, her Husband Ray B. Smith, her parents William Edward and Lona Frances Wood, and her brothers and sisters Audra Houston, Thelma Davis, Leighton Wood, Raymond Wood, Colleen Wood, Wilma Wood, Wanda Warren, and Danny Wood.
