Richard went to be united with his Savior and his loving parents on August 5, 2020. Richard was born February 17, 1939 in Oklahoma City, to Elmo and Verna Wood. Richard was raised as the only child and made his parents proud. He graduated from Northwest Classen, with honors of Top Trombone Player in the state of Oklahoma. His performance as solo trombone with the Junior Symphony under the conductor, Guy Frazier Harrison, was broadcast all over the world. Richard attended OCU with a major in music, and while in college, he performed with the Surry Singers all over Oklahoma, and also in the musical Oklahoma. He tried putting his music talent to teaching the trombone, trumpet, and French horn, but soon changed to becoming a financial auditor until his retirement in 2002. His parents gave him a strong Christian background, and he was the sound booth operator for his Church Trinity Baptist. After marrying his wife Gerry, he moved his membership to Capitol Hill Baptist, and later to Sunnylane Baptist. Richard was a 32nd degree Mason, Shriner in the India Shrine Center and very active in the Directors Staff unit. He was appointed Director of his unit for 2 years. He is survived by his wife, Gerry; his sons, Ricky Wood Jr, wife VI, Ken Ray Wood, wife Patti; stepsons, Billy Lancaster, wife Peggy, Virgil Lancaster, wife Janet, Travis Lancaster, Bryan Lancaster; 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, many friends and loved ones.
