Ron grew up in Indiana, where he attended Catholic school and served as an altar boy. As a young man, his sense of adventure led him to California, where he earned his pilot’s license and even tried skydiving—an experience that resulted in a sprained ankle but a good story nonetheless.
Ron had a deep love for learning. He was an avid history enthusiast and had a brilliant mind for mathematics, a talent that delighted his grandchildren. :) In his free time, Ron enjoyed playing golf, listening to political commentary, and getting lost in the world of Harry Potter. When at home, you could often find him watching old Westerns on television, a familiar comfort throughout his life.
Family was at the center of Ron’s world. He loved his sisters fiercely, and Linda, Joan, and Patty were a constant and treasured part of his daily life. After several relationships, Ron found true and lasting love with Pam. Together, they built the life they both deserved. Through his marriage to Pam, Ron gained two daughters, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He was never happier than when he could be a little ornery with his kids and grandkids—something each of them could confirm with a story guaranteed to bring laughter.
In retirement, Ron discovered a passion for gardening. While living in Utah, he was well known for having the most beautiful yard in the neighborhood and worked at a local greenhouse and pumpkin patch. After moving back to Oklahoma, Ron and Pam embraced adventure, enjoying numerous cruises—often with his sisters and their families. During this time, Ron loved photographing scenic views and spending endless hours playing Hand and Foot, always with a good beer or bloody mary, friends and family are fairly certain he did his share of creative “rule interpretation.”
In the final year of his life, as he bravely fought cancer, Ron could often be found napping with his youngest great-grandchild, Teagan. Watching her grow and forming a special bond with the youngest member of the family was an immense blessing to him and brought him great peace and joy.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Camiel and Norma Jean DeVolder, and his brother-in-law, Al Biesbrouck.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Pam DeVolder; daughters Brandi Thomison and Monica & Terry Hope; grandchildren Shyanne Jones, Victoria & Hunter Griggs, Elizabeth and Connor Hope; great grandchildren Monte, Delson, Arlin, and Teagan; sisters Linda Biesbrouck, Joan Harkins, and Patricia Heflin; brother in law Wayne Heflin; and numerous nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory always.
Ron will be remembered for his sharp mind, playful spirit, deep love for family, and the countless stories that continue to bring smiles to those who knew him.
