William “Bill” Thomas Mustonen was born on April 13, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, to Leigh and William Mustonen. On April 17, 1966, Bill proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served his country with honor until his discharge on April 7, 1972. Following his military service, Bill continued his dedication to public service with a long and distinguished career at the United States Postal Service, spanning nearly 47 years. In total, he devoted over 50 years to serving his country and community.
On April 15, 1972, Bill married the love of his life, Barbara Gail. Together, they built a loving home and raised four sons, leaving behind a legacy rooted in love, resilience, and family.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William and Leigh; his stepfather, Joe Mitchell; his beloved wife, Barbara; and his sons, Kelly and Shannon.
He is lovingly remembered by his sons, Allen (Donna) Griffith and Gary Griffith; his grandchildren, Mandy Wagner (Michael Kidwell), Tena (Jeff) Smith, Kelly (Elizabeth) Griffith, and Blake Griffith; and his eight great-grandchildren, Braden Campbell, Kayla and Maeli Wagner, Carson and Ashton Smith, and Aubrie, Metztli, and Azacani Griffith. He is also survived by his dear friend and longtime roommate, Steve McFadden, as well as many nieces, nephews, and countless friends whose lives he touched over the years.
Bill will be remembered for his unwavering loyalty, quiet strength, and the deep love he held for his family. His legacy lives on through the many lives he influenced and the memories shared by those who knew and loved him.
