Tuesday, January 18, 2022, as the sun set on another day, a loving and gentle soul, Arlene Delcambre Menard peacefully closed her eyes to this earthly life and entered into her eternal glory Wednesday, January 19, 2022. At her passing she was 63.
Arlene was born the middle child of the late Julius Delcambre and the late Virgie Mae Bourque Delcambre. She was raised in a family steeped in faith and Cajun heritage. From an early age, Arlene worked in various careers. She worked with the Diocese of Lafayette and was the administrative assistant at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church for three different Priests. She also worked as a secretary at Delcambre High School, and most recently with Abbeville General Hospital in transcription and medical records.
Arlene was not one to spend her time out and about, but early on she and Curt and the kids spent many memorable trips camping. Some of their favorite camping spots were Chicot, Yogi Bear and Holly Beach. She also loved to sit back with a good book, relaxing to the sound of her wind chimes while tuning out the world. But her best times were when she was with family and friends. Mandy and Brandon shared a laugh when telling of their mom’s love of being on facebook. It was her way of keeping in touch with family and friends when they weren’t able to be together.
Above all, Arlene’s greatest love was her family. Every waking minute spent with them brought a smile to her beautiful face and love to her heart. Although our hearts are broken, we know that you have earned your heavenly reward of eternal rest and peace. We love you dearly and will one day be reunited.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband and best friend of 41 years, Curt Menard; her daughter and son, Mandy Menard Luquette and Brandon Curt Menard; her grandchildren, whom she adored, Kailey Armond, Emily Luquette, Sadie Luquette and Gabriel Menard; her sisters, Linda Delcambre and Tessie Dugas (Clint); her nephews, Dustin Dugas and Jeremy Menard (her Godsons) and Cody Dugas; and her faithful dachshund, Penny.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her in-laws, D L and LouElla Menard.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Arlene’s life will be held at 10:30 am Monday, January 24, 2022 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. Fr. Ed Degeyter will be the celebrant. Following the Mass, Arlene will be laid to rest at the church mausoleum.
