Arlene Mae Terrebonne Nunez, age 84, a longtime resident of Delcambre, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2025. Born on December 7, 1940, in Golden Meadow, Louisiana, she was the beloved daughter of the late Wilsey Anthony and Renza Delphine Terrebonne.
Arlene met the love of her life, Gale, when he escorted her to Homecoming at Delcambre High School, and she went on to be crowned Homecoming Queen. That was the beginning of a four-year courtship, followed by a beautiful 64-year marriage. Together, they shared a loving partnership, full of joy, devotion, and mutual respect.
Steeped in her faith, Arlene was a dedicated member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and the St. Anne's Altar Society. She found great comfort and strength in her faith and was faithful to praying her rosary daily. Her devotion extended to her family, of whom she was incredibly proud. Arlene adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and cherished every moment spent with them. She loved sharing their accomplishments with friends and always beamed with pride.
Arlene was also an avid NASCAR fan and a devoted supporter of the New Orleans Saints, cheering them on through every season. In her leisure time, she enjoyed swinging on her porch, appreciating the outdoors, and welcoming visitors for a good “porch social.”
Arlene and Gale were also active members of the Shrimp Festival Association, where they dedicated their time and enjoyed the camaraderie of the community. They also treasured their trips to the casino, where they made lasting memories together.
Her children have found great comfort in hearing from her friends how sweet and kind she was, a reflection of the love and light she shared with everyone around her.
Those left behind to treasure her memory are her beautiful children, Renell Nunez Romero (Beth), Francis Paul Nunez (Ann), Griff Jude Nunez (Alberto); loving grandchildren, Kassie Duhon (Seth), Oliver Paul Nunez (Taylor), and Parker Anthony Nunez; precious great grandchildren, Evangeline Marie Duhon, Luca Ryan Duhon, Charleigh Louise Nunez, Catherine Jane Nunez and soon to arrive, Carsyn Elizabeth Nunez.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, Francis Gale Nunez; one son, Kevin Anthony Nunez, one grandchild, Maria Elizabeth Nunez and two sisters, Serena Theresa Duet and Leola Marie Trahan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 11:00 am at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, with Fr. Buddy Breaux officiating. Arlene will be laid to rest at the church mausoleum privately at a later date.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025 at Evangeline Funeral Home from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm with a Rosary service at 6:00 pm. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 am on Saturday until 10:30 am dismissal.
