Betsy Trahan Viator, 89, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2026, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital surrounded by loved ones. She was born on August 10, 1936, in Delcambre, LA to the late Wiltz and Velva Delcambre Trahan.
For many years, Betsy was employed at Delcambre Elementary School, where she served faithfully as a Paraprofessional. Her work with students and staff reflected her caring nature and commitment to education. In retirement, she remained connected to her profession as a member of the Retired Teacher Association.
A devoted woman of faith, Betsy was a longtime member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and an active participant in St. Anne’s Altar Society. Her faith guided her life and her service to others.
Betsy cherished time spent with her husband, especially traveling and camping together. They were proud members of the Good Sam’s Club, enjoying the friendships and adventures that came with the RV lifestyle.
Closer to home, Betsy delighted in simple pleasures of spending time with her family, afternoon visits with friends, lively conversations, and their cherished coffee parties, which were filled with laughter and companionship.
She is survived by her son, Jude Viator and his wife Angel Dooley Viator; two grandsons, JonMichael Viator (Samantha) and Quinn Anthony Viator (Kaitlin) two great grandchildren, Remi Viator and Blakely Viator and two more on the way; and her brother, Ryan Trahan (Anna).
Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry James Viator and one brother, James Hayward Trahan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, with Fr. William Schambough officiating. Following the mass, she will be laid to rest alongside her husband at the church mausoleum.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic church beginning at 9:00 am until time of service. A rosary will be prayed at 10:00 am.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are her grandsons, JonMichael Viator and Quinn Anthony Viator; her godchildren, Jared Trahan, Dale Dooley and Dwain Broussard; and her nephew, Jan Trahan. Her cousin, Lane Broussard and great nephew, Dr. Jayme Trahan are honorary pallbearers.
