Felix Lopez died on Sunday, August 21, 2016 at Camelot of Broussard Nursing Home from complications related to his heart. He was admitted into hospice care three months prior to his death. He passed peacefully at 10:25 pm surrounded by his loving family.
Felix was born on April 15, 1933, in Erath, Louisiana. In his early years, he met and later married Bernice Trahan of Coteau, Louisiana. They were married on September 27, 1952 and enjoyed 63 wonderful years of holy matrimony. Felix and Bernice were soul mates and Felix cared for Bernice dearly. They were later blessed with two children; Sandra Ann and Blaine Chris.
NOTHING would ever keep him away from his soul mate; not even death. Bernice passed 7 days prior to Felix. He cried heavily and began having complications due to stress every day until they were reunited by our heavily father.
Felix worked at Diamond Crystal Salt Company for almost 40 years as a barge loader and later worked as a mechanic on the salt bags. He not only took pride in his job, but truly relished the friends he made during his time with Diamond Crystal.
After his retirement, he enjoyed riding his tractor, working in his own personal mechanic shop and cooking in his barbeque house. Although he was considered a jack of all trades, he had a passion for making his pae-pae pepper sauce, stuffing turkey's for the family, making his own dear sausage and always sought out some type of special project. Later in his life Felix went back to work at Integrated Directional Resources with his son Blaine and then Q-Based Solutions with his daughter Sandra. He loved working with his family and being there for his children.
Felix strived to be a good provider and example to his children; teaching them the difference between right and wrong and to be kind and respectful to others. His beliefs were if you couldn't say anything nice about someone, then it was best left unsaid. He was perhaps the kindest and meekest man anyone could ever meet.
Nothing could separate his children and grandchildren from his love. He was the most genuine and highly respected male figure in their lives. Being adored, he held a special relationship with each one of them.
As time went on, Felix and Bernice spent their golden years caring for each other and enjoying each other's company. They loved to dance, listen to music, and enjoy the company of their many friends.
Cherishing his memory, he leaves his daughter Sandra Lopez Booher and her husband Joseph Marquardt of Youngsville, La., his son Blaine Lopez and his wife Nancy Desormeaux Lopez of Broussard, La, his five grandchildren, Frank Breaux, Jr. of Erath, La. and his wife Amanda Richard Breaux, Nicholas Lopez of New Orleans, La, Christopher Lopez of San Antonio, Tx, and his wife Demetri Babineaux Lopez, Kaleb Booher of Durango, Co, Ali Lopez of Broussard, La, and his three great grandchildren Trevor Breaux, Ethan Breaux and Brooks Lopez; his two sisters, Yvonne Lopez Hebert and Lucy Nell Lopez Trahan.
Felix was preceded in death by his wife Bernice Trahan, his parents, Albert and Nolia Mayard Lopez, his two sisters Zula Lopez Frederick and Rosa Belle Lopez Toups, and his two brothers Maxie Lopez and Johnny Lopez.
Pallbearers are his grandsons, Frank Breaux, Jr, Nicholas Lopez, Christopher Lopez, Kaleb Booher, his great grandson Trevor Breaux, and his nephew Travis Trahan. The Honorary Pallbearer is his Great Grandson Ethan Breaux.
