

DELCAMBRE – A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Mr. Leedron Paul “Chuckoo/Red” Mayard, age 82, at 11:00 am Monday, May 6, 2013 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church with Fr. Herb Bennerfield officiating. Interment will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Mausoleum with military honors by Vermilion Parish Honor Guard.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Sunday with a Rosary at 7:00 pm. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 am on Monday until service time.
A native and resident of Delcambre, Mr. Mayard passed away at 11:07 am on Friday, May 3, 2013 at Iberia Medical Center.
Mr. Mayard was a Veteran of the US Army and served his country honorably while in occupation in Germany. He was employed with Texaco for many years as an electrician and also a Plant Fire Chief for many years. He served the Town of Delcambre on the City Council and as Mayor. He was a member of the Shrimp Festival Association, the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion (where he served as Post Commander), and served as President of the Twin Parish Port Commission. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his earlier years and loved spending time with his family. He and his wife were members of the Good Sam’s Camping Club and the Cajun French Music Association.
He is survived by his sons, Chris Mayard and wife Christine E. of Erath and Mickey Mayard and wife Linda C. of Delcambre; daughters, Frankie M. Romero and husband Marcus of Erath and Patrice M. Harvey and husband Steve of Cherry Tree, PA; eight grandchildren, Dusti M. Robicheaux and husband Trey, Caleb Mayard and wife Michelle, Johnathan Mayard and wife Heather, Jeremy Castille and wife Deidra, Millicent Johnston and husband Daniel, Bliss Romero, Demi Butler, and Amelia Harvey; eleven great grandchildren; and one half sister, Barbara S. McKenna of Delcambre.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Emilda “Millie” Bourque Mayard; mother, Noella LeBlanc Meyers Steen; Father, Saul Meyers; one sister, Betty Meyers and two grandchildren, Grant Paul Mayard and Casey J. Mayard.
Pallbearers will be Johnathan Mayard, Caleb Mayard, Jeremy Castille, Steve Harvey, Marcus Romero, Trey Robicheaux, Jesse Alario and Jade Mayard.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Vermilion Parish Honor Guard.
