Lorraine Segura Duhon, our beloved mother, devoted grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and cherished friend, gently closed her eyes to this earthly life and entered into eternal glory on Saturday, August 31, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was 88 years old.
Born on December 24, 1935, on Jefferson Island, Lorraine was the cherished daughter of Dewey Jean Segura and Euphemie Desormeaux Segura, both of whom preceded her in death. Lorraine grew up in a family steeped in Cajun heritage, embracing the simple joys of life. As a child, she fondly remembered crabbing with her parents and picking fresh blackberries for her mother’s sweet creations—treasures that painted her childhood with a vibrant, memorable palette.
Lorraine’s journey in life took a significant turn when she met Wilbert J. Duhon, the love of her life. Together, they raised eleven wonderful children. Lorraine treasured her role as a mother and homemaker, and later, when her children were grown, she ventured into the workforce. Her professional life was marked not by financial gain but by the meaningful friendships she formed with her colleagues and all of her friends. That same love in her heart poured over to her generous spirit in supporting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for over 50 years.
A true embodiment of the "joie de vivre," Lorraine never let an opportunity pass to make life a celebration. A laugh was shared as they remembered how she would put her records on and dance while she cleaned her house and while cooking meals for the family. They all agreed that mama's "red soup" or vegetable soup with soup meat was one meal everyone came running for. And her world famous pecan cake was just as good. It brought so much joy to her heart to feed everyone and have them all under her roof. She was also an accomplished seamstress and took pride in making clothing for her children. Her vibrant presence was also felt in the lively games of bourre, pokeno, and bingo, and her enthusiastic support for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren at their various events.
Though her passing leaves a void, we find solace in the knowledge that Lorraine rests in eternal peace. Her legacy of love, joy, and unwavering support for her family will forever be cherished.
Lorraine is survived by her children Chris L. Duhon (Sebrena), Kerry J. Duhon (Louise), Barry J. Duhon (Donna), Wade J. Duhon, Sarah A. Duhon, Brett J. Duhon, Gay M. Geoffroy (Nelson), Amy Jo Callahan (Scott), and Rashel M.
