Known as “Lou” among his friends and colleagues, he dedicated many years of his life as a platform operator in the oilfield industry, where he earned the respect and friendship of those he worked alongside. Despite his long and hardworking career offshore, Lou’s true passion lay in the world of horses. A gifted jockey in his younger years, he never lost his deep love for the sport and the animals that inspired him.
Lou found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He was a regular at Smiley’s on Sunday afternoons, where he could often be found dancing to French music with a broad smile and a light heart. An outdoorsman at heart, he took great pride in his garden and caring for his beloved chickens. Animals held a special place in his soul, none more than his loyal dog, Roxie, who rarely left his side.
Lou’s warmth, humor, and easygoing nature touched everyone who knew him. He will be remembered not only for his strong work ethic and deep passions, but for the kindness and spirit he brought into every room.
He is deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
He is survived by his children, Tracey Lege and Kelsey Lege; Nicholas “Nick” Gary and Felicia Duplantis; Leticia Gerard and Jerry Gerard; Raylyn Lavergne and Lane Lavergne; Evan Gary and Olivia Taylor and James “Jimmy” Moreland; eighteen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; four sisters, Connie Moreaux and Chris Moreaux; Bonnie Thibodeaux and Artie Thibodeaux; Mirian Gary Duplantis and Cheryl Gary and Charlie Bourque and four brothers, Clarence Gary and Barbara Trahan; Darryl Gary; Rusty Gary and Leslie Gary and Robert Gary and Paula Gary.
