Marion J. Saunier

DELCAMBRE – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Marion J. Saunier, age 81, at 11:00 am Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. Fr. Nathan Comeaux will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in Our Lady of the Lake Mausoleum.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church on Tuesday from 8:30 am until time of the mass.

Marion J. Saunier was born November 2, 1933 in Delcambre, Louisiana to the late Lenes and Noela Leleux Saunier, and passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 10, 2015 in Abbeville, with his family at his side.

Mr. Saunier was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. He served the people of Vermilion Parish for over 35 ½ years as an employee of the Vermilion Parish Police Jury beginning September 1, 1958 through January 1, 1993. During that he also served as Parish Road Supervisor.

Marion enjoyed being able to hop on his tractor and cut grass, or just to be outside doing any type of yard work. His greatest joy was the time spent with his family, especially spoiling his grandchildren. He leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and friendship that will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife, Claudia Detraz Saunier of Delcambre; his son and daughter-in-law, Michael Saunier and Ann-Rachel Hebert Saunier of Lafayette; his grandsons, Alexander, Grayson and Richmond Saunier; two brothers, Felix “Bitsy” Saunier and wife Lorraine, Charles Saunier and wife Betty; a sister, Laura Von Reaux and husband Kenneth; a sister-in-law, Mary Lynn Saunier; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Lenes Saunier; and a brother, Donald T. Saunier.

Pallbearers will be Leonard, Thomas, Scotty and Tal Saunier, Clay Broussard, and Todd Reaux. Honorary pallbearers are Clayton Rogers and Monty Rogers.
