DELCAMBRE — A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Mrs. Marjorie Derise the former Marjorie Duhon, age 83, at 2:00 pm Friday, May 13, 2011 at Our Lady of The Lake Catholic Church with the Rev. Herb Bennerfield officiating. Interment will follow at Our Lady of the Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm with a Rosary at 7:00 pm. The funeral home will reopen at 10:00 am on Friday until service time.
A native of Port Neches, Texas and longtime resident of Delcambre, Mrs. Derise passed away at Abbeville General Hospital on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at 8:15 am.
Mrs. Derise was a member of Our Lady of The Lake Catholic Church, the Altar Society and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary which she served as President for one term. She also participated in the Eucharistic Adoration Chapel for many years. She was a seamstress, enjoyed playing cards and having coffee with friends and family. She also loved to cook and go to the movies. She owned and operated the 3 Way Inn for many years with her husband, John Derise.
She is survived by her children, Sheila Simoneaux, of Rayne, Tommy Derise and wife Judy; Norman Ray Derise and wife Sally and Louis Derise and wife Marilyn all of Delcambre and Connie Sarkies and husband Don of New Iberia;15 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and one due in July. She is also survived by one sister Hilda Stelly, two half siblings Ruby McDonald and Eugene Duhon Jr. and wife Ruby; step sister Rita McDonald and her sister in law, Helen Duhon.
She was preceded in death by husband John Derise, her mother Eliza Broussard and her husband Erise Broussard, her father Eugene Duhon, Sr. and wife Martine Duhon; sister Audry Groff , brothers Cleveland Duhon and his wife Corinne and Melvin “Black” Duhon; and brothesr-in-laws Kermit McDonald and J.B.McDonald.
Pallbearers will be Kendall and Kevin Simoneaux, Jake and Doug Derise, Shaun Derise, Nick Sarkies and Samuel Derise.
The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to Hospice of Acadiana, Dr. LeBouef, nurse Judith and social worker Nancy, and the wonderful caring staff of Abbeville General Hospital.
