

DELCAMBRE – A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Maxie Lopez, age 88, at 3:00 pm on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. Fr. Ed Degeyter will be the celebrant at the service. Interment will follow at Our Lady of the Lake Cemetery with a Military Flag Presentation by the Erath American Legion Post #279 Honor Guard.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Wednesday with a Rosary at 7:00 pm. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 am on Thursday until service time.
A native and resident of Vermilion Parish, Mr. Lopez passed away at 8:58 pm on Monday, February 7, 2011 at his residence.
Mr. Lopez was a WWII Veteran of the United States Army. He was employed at the Jefferson Island Salt Mine for 26 years. He enjoyed being outdoors and raising pigeons, rabbits, sheep, horses, cows, dogs and his beloved cat “Menew”. Mr. Lopez truly enjoyed spending time with his family, always trying to teach his grandchildren to speak French and watching wrestling on TV with them. He leaves behind a wonderful legacy for them and will be missed greatly by all who knew him.
Mr. Lopez is survived by his wife, Venola Hebert Lopez; one daughter, Myrtis Thomas and her husband Huey; one son, Carroll Lopez and his wife Elaine; two brothers, Felix Lopez and his wife Bernice and Johnny Lopez and his wife Della; and four sisters, Zula Frederick, Rose Toups and Lucinell Trahan all of Erath and Yvonne Hebert and her husband Luther of Abbeville.
He is also survived by six grandchildren, Toby Thomas and wife Simonne; Dina Landry and special friend Mike Dore; Adrea Broussard and husband Chris; Corey Lopez and wife Cresent; Casey Lopez and wife Sam and Cale Lopez and wife Brandy; eleven great grandchildren, Kimberly Quibodeaux and husband Zach; Tucker Landry and Lauren Trahan; Garrette Thomas and Kali Cormier; Tailor Broussard; Rhen Broussard; Kaylee Lopez; Abigail Lopez; Brock Lopez; Jessa Lopez; Skylar Whitworth and Miranda Hebert; four great great grandchildren, AnnKatherine Reaux; Peyton Reaux; Emma Hebert and Cullen Hebert and his godchildren, Yvette Menard and Katherine Romero.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nora Mae Romero Lopez; parents, Albert and Nola Mayard Lopez and his brothers in law, Renes Toups; Sanford Trahan and Noyd Frederick.
Pallbearers will be Corey Lopez, Cale Lopez, Casey Lopez, Garrette Thomas, Tucker Landry, Toby Thomas and Chris Broussard.
Honorary pallbearers will be Peyton Reaux, Zack Quibodeaux and Dale Frederick.
