Tuesday, December 7, 2021…in the early morning hours before the sun rose on another day, Paul Bourque, Jr., surrounded by his family, closed his eyes to this earthly life and entered into his eternal peace and rest. At his death he was 59.
Paul was born September 14, 1962 in Erath to the late Paul Bourque, Sr. and the late Marie Anite Decoux Bourque Viator and was one of five children born to that union.
Paul lived a life, albeit simple and not wanting for materialistic things, but for his faith in the Lord and for the love of his family. He had genuine concern for others and always asked about his in-laws and nieces and nephews that he loved so dearly. His sisters and brother best described Paul as a man with a kind and generous heart, and they in turn loved to spoil him. Home cooked meals were Paul’s favorite and he was never without because of his family. They gave him as much love and kindness as he showed to everyone else. Some of his favorite pastimes were coin collecting and, speaking Cajun French and listening to some good Cajun music. That, coupled with a family gathering, and Paul was living his best life. Our dear brother and beloved uncle will forever live on in our hearts and thoughts. Rest well Paul for we will meet again. We love you.
Those left to cherish his memory are his sisters and brother, Verly Bourque Landry, Linda Bourque Menard (Charles), Hilda Bourque Porter, Charlene Bourque Hebert (Neil) and Timmy Bourque; and a host of nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Bourque, Sr. and Marie Anite Decoux Bourque Viator; his step-father, Louis C. Viator; his brother, O.J. Bourque; grandparents, Cyriac Decoux and Laura Menard Decoux and Ovay Bourque; and his brother-in-law, Lynn Porter.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Paul’s life will be held at 3:00 pm Thursday, December 9, 2021 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. Fr. Buddy Breaux will be the celebrant. Following the mass, Paul will be laid to rest in Our Lady of the Lake Mausoleum.
A gathering of friends and family will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Thursday from 7:30 am until 2:30 pm, with the Rosary being recited at 11:30 am.
