

DELCAMBRE – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Grady Derise, age 87, at 10:00 am Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. Fr. Kendall Faulk will be the celebrant. Mr. Derise will be laid to rest at Our Lady of the Lake Mausoleum.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home of Delcambre on Friday from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm, with the Rosary being prayed at 6:30 pm. Visiting hours will resume on Saturday from 8:00 am until 9:30 am.
Grady was born November 30, 1928 in Jefferson Island to the late Dominique Derise and the late Stella LeMaire Derise, and passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
Grady was a Navy Veteran who severed in the Korean War for four years, from August 1, 1949 through March 20, 1953 on the Naval Destroyer Ship, “USS Norris DD-859” as an engine room mechanic. This is where he learned to work on diesel engines which he continued as his life’s work. He also made lifelong friends during this time. He was a member of the American Legion Post 338 in Delcambre. He loved his cowboy boots, cowboy hats and Hank Williams. He loved to groom his yard at “Grady’s Acres” as he called his home. He also loved being around his grandchildren. Grady was always telling jokes and laughing before the punch line. Grady lived a long life and lived it his way.
Survivors include his children, Ann Derise of Delcambre, Bill Derise and wife Jill of Houston, A.J. Derise and fiancee’ Darby of Erath, Timmy “Slim” Derise of Delcambre, Karl Derise and wife Christy of Erath; his former wife, Shirley H. Derise; his grandchildren, Booth Broussard, Markell Ayo, Boyer Derise, Charli Derouen, Jackson Derise, Lauren Derise, Lexi Derise, Claire Derise, Matthew Derise, Tucker Derise and Mia Kate Derise; five great grandchildren, Faith Broussard, Chloe Ayo, Caroline Ayo, Louis Derise and Lisette Derise; and his sisters, Dorothy Choplin of St. Martinville and Leona Broussard of Delcambre.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, John and Wilbert Derise, Louise Landry, Mildred Falgout, Josephine Migues and Janesse LeBlanc.
Serving as pallbearers are Boyer, Jackson, Matthew and Tucker Derise, Kurt Choplin and Nicky Comeaux.
