DELCAMBRE – A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Mr. Rex Archange Bertrand, age 85, at 11:00 am on Monday, March 21, 2011 at Our Lady of the lake Catholic Church. Fr. Herb Bennerfield will be the celebrant for the services. Interment will follow at Our Lady of the Lake Cemetery with Military Honors by the Vermilion parish Honor Guard.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Sunday with a Rosary at 6:00 pm. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 am on Monday until service time.
A native of Vermilion Parish and resident of Delcambre since 1946, Mr. Bertrand passed away at 6:30 pm on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at Heritage Manor of Abbeville.
Mr. Bertrand served his country honorably in the United States Army in World War II. He was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, VFW, Delcambre American Legion, Woodmen of the World, Delcambre Shrimp Festival for 53 years and also the Delcambre Fire Department. He retired from State National Bank of New Iberia and Gulf Coast Bank of Delcambre. Mr. Bertrand was a kind and compassionate, loving husband, father and grandfather and great grandfather. He cherished his family and the town of Delcambre deeply. He was an avid local sports fan and he loved the Houston Astros.
He leaves behind to mourn his wife of 63 years, Lily Gerard Bertrand of Delcambre; four daughters, Jackie Toups and husband Wayne of Delcambre; Cora Bertrand and companion Kenneth Theriot of Parks; Lena Myers and husband Darryl of Lafayette and Tammy Gordon and husband Ches of Delcambre; six grandchildren, Barret Toups and wife Cara; Tori Trahan, Blaire Myers, Jonathon Myers, Olivia Gordon and Flynn Gordon; two great grandchildren, Hannah and Emma Toups; one sister Gertrude Comeaux of Delcambre and three half brothers, Chester Bertrand, Charles Bertrand and Jessie Bertrand.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Soline and Marie Degeyter Bertrand, and step mother, Alfreda Bertrand and his siblings, Gladys Touchet, Clarence Bertrand and Elvie Fabre.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Toups, Kenneth Theriot, Darryl Myers, Ches Gordon, Barret Toups and Jonathon Myers.
The family extends their gratitude to the staff of Heritage Manor Nursing Home for making Rex’s last few years restful and serene.
