Ann K Rubin
April 22, 1920 – March 14, 2021
With profound sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Ann Kramer Rubin, on March 14th, 2021, just 5 weeks away from what would have been her 101st birthday. She went peacefully under the care of very dedicated and watchful TrustBridge Hospice staff with family by her side.
Born in Brockton, Massachusetts to Cantor Benjamin Kramer and Dora Denick, on April 22, 1920. She met her late husband, Quentin Theodore Rubin during World War II, who served in the Army Air Corps. Ann, Quent, and their 2 children spent many happy years living in a 2-family home in Everett with her parents living downstairs, and owning and managing a family-run grocery store and multiple laundromats on Beacon Hill in Boston, MA. Ann was thrilled to celebrate 67 years of a loving marriage before losing her husband in 2006.
Amazingly independent in every way, Ann lived in her own condo in Delray Beach Florida, loved and laughed with her family, and spent her time going out to shows, movies, and out to eat with a wonderful group of friends, playing mahjong, cards, and Scrabble, and chatting for hours on the phone. Ann was always the dedicated driver, and even at 99 years old was the one picking up her younger friends to take them to wherever they were going. A better driver than most people 20 years younger, Ann loved to show off her skills. Proud, strong, and always the life of the party, Ann charmed everyone she met with her quick humor, fun personality, and great wit. If there was an event going on, everyone wanted Ann to join in. Always there with a sympathetic ear, she was ready with friendly advice and support to all who needed it.
She kept up with the times by faithfully reading the Sunday New York Times, the Sun Sentinel and various local papers and magazines. An avid reader, lifelong learner, and trivia buff, Ann loved the library and read through the NYT Best Seller list at amazing speed. Ann loved watching the news, The View, Jeopardy, and Judge Judy.
Ann was proud to be a retired employee of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, after 20 years of having served as Administrative Assistant to Dr. Jonathan Lieff at Boston State Hospital in Dorchester, MA, and at the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital in Jamaica Plain, MA. Ann and her late husband were active volunteers at the New England Sinai Hospital for many years, beloved by the employees and patients alike.
Always busy and socially engaged, she served in numerous capacities in a number of organizations including: The Diamond Club The Sharon Men’s Club The Jewish Coalition, Hyde Park, MA Served as Chairwoman at Jewish Family Living Served as President of Hadassah Member of Temple Tiffereth Israel, Everett, MA Member of Temple Beth Am, Randolph, MA
Loved by children Don J. Rubin of Santa Rosa California, and Harvey B. Rubin of New Milford, Connecticut. She was a proud grandmother to Rebecca Beth Kadden and her husband, Yoni Kadden, Jessica Faye Rubin, Rachel Cara Rubin, and great grandmother to Madeleine Thea Kadden.
Predeceased by her brother, Herman Kramer.
She will be dearly missed and loved always by family, friends, and neighbors. Contributions can be made in her memory to her favorite organizations, Hadassah Northeast, 1320 Centre St, Newton Centre, MA 02459, or Hais, 1300 Spring Street, Suite 500 Silver Spring, MD 20910.
