It is with a heavy heart; the Baker family must announce the passing of their Patriarch. George was born on July 10, 1933 in Hells Kitchen, NYC and died June 26, 2025 in Delray Beach, FL just shy of his 92nd birthday. However, George lived most of his life in Ridgewood, Queens. George was a beloved husband, a cherished father, an adored grandfather and proud great grandfather. He was also a loved brother-in-law and uncle, as well as a good buddy to his many friends.
George married the love of his life, Pat, and they were to be married 69 years this October. They lived a happy life: going to Hawaii for their 25th Anniversary, vacationing in several Caribbean Islands and went on multiple cruises. Pat & George had 3 fur-babies in their life. PJ passed in 1987, Shorty left us last year and now they had Teddy Bear. Our father was an animal lover and animals were drawn to him. We used to call him St. Francis of Assisi. George served in the Korean War, but was best known for his athletic abilities. He played softball from childhood to 63 yrs of age, when he retired to Delray Beach, FL. He played 1st & 3rd base in his younger years and became a star windmill pitcher in his later years. He was nominated into the Ridgewood Softball Hall of Fame, in 2000, for a lifetime of playing Sports and stated he was the Best of the Best! George was also an avid Bowler and bowled in a league during most of his adult life. Upon retirement, George took up golf as a Senior Citizen and did pretty good for an old guy. During his golf career he shot two Holes in One.
George had a big heart and those who knew him never had a bad word to say about him. He will be dearly missed by many.
A Christian Mass will be celebrated at St. Emmanuelle Church, in Delray Beach, on Wednesday, July 9 at 10 am. Inurnment will be at the S. FL. National Cemetery, in Lake Worth, at 2:30 pm. This will be a Veteran’s Service.
