This is a message about Jerry Shoib.
       In the fall of 1965, I reported to Northeastern University as a Freshman with a major in engineering. The policy of the college then was that all freshmen with an engineering major would take a series of certain classes and then as sophmores, declare which engineering major we wanted to study.  We were learning physics, chemistry, economics and the like. The majors were civil, mechanical, electrical or industrial engineering. 
        So during my freshman year, before classes, at lunch and between classes, I was part of a group that hung out at the cafeteria.  We gathered around “the table”. At the table, in between coffee, we talked, joked, made fun of certain professors and discussed homework. We formed friendships that lasted. But over five years, the group changed because of different majors and differing cooperative work terms.  Certain people made indelible impressions. 
        I met Jerry Shoib at the table. Most boys were from blue collar families. I, for one, could not afford most colleges. I was one of nine and there  was no money for tuition, books, commuting and the like. But Northeastern allowed us to work our way through on the coop program. 
         Most of us were Christians. Jerry was Jewish. Jerry was one of us. We were learning about life. I had my first real exposure to alcohol. I had my first real girl friend. 
           After graduation, we took jobs all over the place. So it was hard to keep in touch. I probably talked to him last over fifty years ago. But I do remember him, as a good man and a good friend.

A “mensch” in every sense of the word. A devoted husband, father and grandfather. The entire family will miss his smile, his sense of humor, his laughter and his goodness.   Michael Litchman

Dear Jeannie, Cindy and Lorrie,
I had the pleasure of growing up with Jerry as my "big cousin". We used to go to the "wall" with other cousins and I would love to tag along as the little cousin. I remember Jerry always with a smile on his face back then. We had the pleasure of literately bumping into both of  you on a remote Island off a cruise ship. The rest of the week we met everyday to talk about our family memories. There were lots of great stories to tell. My husband Bill and Jerry got to be fast great friends. 
Jeannie, you and I were never lost for words. This is such a great loss as he will be missed by so many. He was a special man. May his memory be a blessing for your families.  My sincerest condolences.

Jerry was a phenomenal friend and co-worker at USPS where we worked together for the better part of 20 years. A true team player and a devoted individual to his family and friends.  He will be missed. 

I had the distinct pleasure of working with you and for you at the Ft. Lauderdale post office.  You had the best demeanor, great sense of humor and were just an overall good person.  I see from the photos that you just loved your family and were always smiling.  That is exactly how I want to remember you. I met Jerry 9 years ago when 
 We first moved to Florida.He was most welcoming and we played tennis, cards and just kibitzed. Jerry always had a smile on his face and glowed when his special ringtone went off on his phone. It was when one of his grandchildren called. 
I will miss his friendship. Jeannie you married one hell of

Jerry was a great guy and good friend. Judy and I enjoyed his sense of humor and how your were comfortable in his presence. He was the creator of the VSMC shirts which some of us were proud to wear earlier day. We enjoyed cruising with Jerry and Jeannie. Especially the Passover cruise to Cuba. We remember meeting at the buffet deck after the evening activities had ended to play canasta into the earl6 mornings. I always enjoyed his humorous emails and passed them to my network.

What can I say? Jerry was a true friend. He will be missed.

Dear Jeanne, Lorrie, and Cindy,
Not only did my dad (Tino Delgado) worked along side Jerry at the USPS Miami branch for years, they were friends and neighbors. Our Pembroke Lakes neighborhood was truly a special one with such wonderful neighbors like your family! I can still remember your husband's/father's bright smile and kind heart he shared with all of the neighborhood kids. He is sorely missed. Please accept my sincere condolences.
