February 23, 1950 – November 18, 2023
James “Jim” Burnett passed into his Lord and Savior’s arms on Nov 18, 2023. While in a time of mourning, many fixate on the dates of birth and passing, Jim often said that the dash between is the most significant. His dash was a life of love.
Jim was devoted to, and delightfully spoiled by his adoring wife Nancy. A lover of nature, Jim took great pride that Nancy was his hunting buddy and much more. She was his fishing and boating partner, motorcycle trip cohort, and companion in all things.
Jim was blessed with two children, Jennifer Gross, and Travis Burnett. He was very proud of Jennifer’s accomplishments and talents, and her tender spirit and love of God. He was equally proud of Travis. Jim shared his passion for motorcycles and speed with his son. That love would shape Travis’ life calling and career.
Jim was dad to his stepsons, Michael Burnett, and Randy Wardell. He never once referred to them as anything other than his boys. He delighted in teaching them things only a dad could teach, including his love of Christ, nature, and the joy of simply being.
With four kids, comes a crew of grandkids. Papa Bear loved them with a fierceness only a bear could have. He had different, but special relationships with each. Papa loved every special moment with Otto & Owen (Jennifer); Jackson & Brooklyn (Travis); Britt & Bennett James (Michael); and Isaac & Hope (Randy). Papa was proud of each of them in his own special way. He also loved son-in-law, Aaron Gross, and each of his daughters-in-law, Lesley Burnett, Jenevieve Wardell, and Kelly Burnett.
Jim is also survived by his cherished mother Diane Burnett. He adored his only sister Kathy and had many fun times with her and brother-in-law Jeff Adams.
His mourning for the loss of his dad, Irvin, and brothers Rick and Robbie never ceased. The love and fun they shared forever shaped Jim’s passion for his family.
Many knew Jim by his personal “Tid-Bit” ministry. His gift for writing devotionals helped others see and understand God’s faithfulness. Many would respond in wonder of how Jim knew just what they needed to hear.
