Joyce Erfer, 96, of Boca Raton, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Joyce lived a remarkable life centered around family, love, hard work, and happiness. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Melvin Erfer, with whom she shared a wonderful life and built a beautiful family.
Joyce was a devoted mother to Leslee Shooster (Daniel) of Boca Raton and David Erfer (Lori) of Basking Ridge, and a loving grandmother to Joel Shooster, Paul Shooster, Derek Shooster (Chad), and Margot Platt (Alex), and Justin Erfer (Abby) and Ryan Erfer (Hillary). She was incredibly proud to be a great-grandmother to Layla, Carson, and Coby Platt, and Ben and Quinn Erfer.
Joyce and Melvin were partners in every sense of the word. Together, they owned and operated various businesses over the years, including Hobbyland and several office supply stores. Some of Joyce’s happiest memories were made while working alongside Melvin, especially when their grandchildren would come to visit them at The Festival. Those visits became treasured family memories and were a reflection of what mattered most to Joyce - having the people she loved close by.
To know Joyce was to love her. She was genuinely happy, endlessly kind, and had a magnetic warmth that drew people to her. She loved traveling the world, going out for dinner (Houston’s was always her favorite!), and, above all, spending time with her family. Her home was always welcoming, and her ever-present candy bowls became one of those small but special things her family will forever associate with her.
Joyce was also known for her wisdom and the wonderful advice she gave. She listened without judgment and had a way of offering just the right words when they were needed most. In 96 years of life, she touched countless people with her kindness, and it speaks volumes about her character that no one ever seemed to have a bad word to say about her. She was simply good, through and through.
Joyce will be fondly remembered for the remarkable life she led, the love she gave so freely, and the happiness she brought to those around her. She leaves behind a legacy of family, kindness, laughter, and love that will live on for generations. She was truly unforgettable and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In keeping with Joyce’s vibrant spirit, a service will be held for immediate family and close friends, followed by a celebration of her life filled with stories, laughter, and memories of the joy she brought into the world.
She lived 96 wonderful years, loved deeply, and was deeply loved in return.
