Rose Mond

After WWII she married Ben Mondschein and had her first child, Michael, while living in a displaced person’s camp in Germany. Rose, with her husband and child, migrated to the United States in 1949. A second son, Jerry, was born in 1950 in Brooklyn, New York. She proudly became a naturalized United States citizen on November 22, 1955. On March 15, 1957 the family officially changed their surname to Mond. They lived in Brooklyn, and then Valley Stream, NY until 1983 when they retired to Delray Beach, Florida.

In addition to her sons, Michael (Sharon) and Jerry (Lan), she is survived by her grandchildren, Julie, Josh, Ariel, and step grandchildren, Jesse (Rachel) and Chelsea, and great grandchildren, Charlotte and Phillip. She is also survived by her brother, Yossi Oberlander, nephews (Allon and Tamir) and nieces (Etta and Billie) and their families in Israel, close family in the United States and Canada (Jeanne Stellman, Marion Reiser, Helen Hockberger, Jane Wechsler), and longtime friends (Jules Bailes, Harold Bailis, Charlotte Baines).

Rose made friends easily and was a gifted storyteller. She was always quick with a joke and her laughter lit up a room. Rose was an ardent supporter of Israel and visited many times over the years to be with her parents and relatives. She was active in her holocaust survivors’ group, her temple, and her community. Rose loved to dance, as well as attend concerts, read, and play cards. She will be missed by all who knew her and will continue to live in all of our hearts.

A chapel funeral service will be held at Riverside Memorial Chapel, 7205 W. Atlantic Ave, Delray Beach, FL on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at 11:15 am, followed by interment at Eternal Light Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor should be made to either Temple Anshei Shalom, 7099 West Atlantic Avenue, Delray Beach, FL 33446, any holocaust survivors’ group or the Jewish National Fund.
