Shirley Sylvia Sherman

Shirley Sylvia Sherman (Mammy) , 88 years old, of Tamarac, FL, died at 7:04 PM, Thursday, April 27th, 2017. She was surrounded by her family at the time of her death in Boca Raton, FL. She was born January 3RD, 1929 in Staten Island , NY to Samuel & Frieda Orenstein. She was the youngest of 4 children; 1 brother, Stanley and 2 sisters, Corinne & Rhoda who all predeceased her.

She is survived by her two children, her son Dr. F Scott Sherman & her daughter & son in law, Vicki & Neal Alterman; her grandson, Andrew Horning; her granddaughter & grandson in law Stephanie & Justin Latchford; and one great granddaughter Greenlee Latchford.

Shirley was a long time resident of New York before moving to Florida.

She loved to sing & dance. Family was everything to our Mammy and she was everything to our family! We love her and she loved us and always put us first. She was an extraordinary cook and enjoyed entertaining. She was fantastic at games and especially enjoyed playing scrabble with whoever would play. She also loved spending as much time as possible with her children & grandchildren taking them to plays and other events. Throughout her life she loved to help others and became the play lady at Schneider Pavilion at Long Island Jewish Hospital. She was an avid supporter & donator to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Services will be held on Sunday, April 30th, 2017 at 1:00pm at Riverside-Stanetsky Memorial Chapels located at 7205 W. Atlantic Avenue, Delray Beach, FL 33446

Following the service we will lead a precession to:

Star of David Memorial Gardens Cemetery and Funeral Chapel

7701 Bailey Road, North Lauderdale, FL 33068

** We will have a celebration of life and sit Shiva following the cemetery service at: 22731 SW 55th Way, Boca Raton, FL 33433
