Shirley Svedlow

Loveland, CO — Shirley’s love and compassion for all whom she knew will live on in the hearts and memories of the hundreds of lives she touched over her 93 years of life. She passed gently in the early morning hours of Wednesday, December 6th at North Shore Health and Rehab facility where she was affectionately cared for by the staff for the past seven months. Her life began in the Bronx in New York City on December 26, 1923. After graduating Walton High School she worked as a model and buyer in the fashion industry in New York City. In 1945 she married Dr. Bernard Svedlow and eventually they moved to Stamford, CT where Shirley ran the business side of Bernard’s medical practice. Shirley was active in Democratic politics in Stamford, CT and her interests took her on a career path that led to being a dietician and nursing home administrator at Smith House Healthcare Center in Stamford.

A devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and cousin; Shirley is predeceased by her husband Bernard and her eldest son Donald Svedlow. Shirley is survived by her sons Dr. Gerald Svedlow and his wife Ms. Catherine Breen who reside in Santa Barbara, CA and Dr. Andrew Svedlow and his partner Dr. Lisa Wolff who reside in Loveland, CO. Shirley is survived by her seven grandchildren: Aaron Svedlow of Portland, ME; David Svedlow of NYC, Kyle Svedlow of Brooklyn, NY, Alex Svedlow of Brooklyn, Hannah Svedlow of Greeley, CO, Zoe Svedlow of Greeley, CO and Summer Svedlow of Loveland, CO. Shirley has four great grandchildren: Torin, Helen, Maeve, and Adeline.

Her family and friends want to let her know that she did a great job in life and that she had much more than a positive impact on all of us. We will remember her laughter, her warmth, her energy, her love for life, family and friends, but also her great joy in being around others and the joy she spread in the world. She made a difference in the lives of many.

Chapel Services will be held on Monday, December 18, 2007 ~ 11:00 a.m. at Riverside - Stanetsky Memorial Chapels, 7205 West Atlantic Avenue, Delray Beach, FL 33446 (561) 496-7550. Interment to follow at Eternal Light Memorial Gardens, Boynton Beach.
