Ted Scott Tarant, affectionately known as "Dad" and "Pop," passed away peacefully on July 31, 2026, at the age of 75. Born on January 15, 1951, in New York City, Ted lived a life defined by kindness, generosity, unwavering integrity, and, above all, a fierce and unconditional love for his family.
Ted grew up in Fair Lawn, New Jersey, a town that always held a special place in his heart. He loved it so deeply that he chose to raise his own family there, creating a lifetime of memories with those he loved most. After many years and enough cold winters, Ted and his beloved wife, Lynn, made their home in Florida. There, he embraced his new community with the same enthusiasm and generosity that defined every chapter of his life. As Vice President of his building at the Lakes of Delray, Ted worked tirelessly to beautify the property, improve life for his neighbors, and warmly welcome every new resident. It didn't take long for strangers to become friends and friends to become family.
Ted is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Lynn Barbara Tarant, the love of his life and his constant source of strength, comfort, and happiness. Their marriage was built on a lifetime of love, friendship, and unwavering devotion to one another. Ted cherished Lynn every day of their life together and often spoke of her as the best, kindest, and most patient person in the world. He was deeply grateful for her endless love, compassion, and care, and for the way she stood by his side through every moment of their journey together, caring for him with extraordinary devotion until his final day. Together, they built a beautiful family that was the pride and joy of Ted’s life.
He leaves behind his son, Matthew Tarant, with whom he shared an extraordinarily close bond. They spoke nearly every day, and Ted treasured every conversation. One of his greatest joys was serving as Scout Master for Matthew's boy scout troop, and he beamed with pride when Matthew earned the rank of Eagle Scout, a moment he never stopped celebrating.
He is also survived by his beloved daughter, Rebecca, and son-in-law, Chris. Ted loved Rebecca deeply and took immense pride in the life she built and in all that she accomplished. He never missed an opportunity to tell friends about Rebecca and Chris, sharing their achievements with admiration, affection, and unmistakable pride.
Nothing in life brought Ted greater happiness than being "Pop" to his cherished grandsons, CJ and Dominick, affectionately known to him as "#1" and "#2." He delighted in texting them to check in, hear about school, celebrate their achievements, and follow every lacrosse tournament and football game. He loved every detail of their lives, and they knew without question that their Pop was always cheering them on. His family was his life's greatest passion, and he could not have been more proud to call them his own.
Ted is also survived by his loving mother, Lucille Tarant, with whom he shared a uniquely close relationship. They spoke every day, cherishing long conversations about their family, their shared memories, and the rich heritage that meant so much to them both. Ted cherished siblings, his brother, Dr. Sandy Tarant and his partner Kathy and his sister Dr. Nicki Tarant and beloved sister in law Jill. Ted always deeply admired the accomplishments of his brother and sister, appreciating their dedication to becoming highly specialized doctors, and celebrating his sister's distinguished service as a Captain in the Navy. Ted’s love of his sister in law Jill was unwavering. He shared her love of Disney World and enjoyed countless trips with her to their special place. He was preceded in death by his beloved father, Herbert Tarant, whom he loved deeply throughout his life. His family finds comfort in knowing that father and son are together once again.
One of the greatest blessings of Ted's final chapter was sharing one last unforgettable family vacation with those he loved most. Surrounded by his beloved mother, his wife, Lynn, his son Matthew and Matthew's girlfriend Caitlyn, his daughter Rebecca and son-in-law Chris, and his cherished grandsons, CJ and Dominick, Ted set sail on a Caribbean cruise filled with laughter, love, and togetherness. Every meal shared, every sunset admired, every conversation, and every smile became another treasured memory. It was a journey that perfectly reflected what mattered most to Ted, being surrounded by family, and those precious moments will be cherished by all who shared them for the rest of their lives.
Ted will forever be remembered for his extraordinary generosity, humor, compassionate spirit, and genuine empathy. His love was unconditional, and helping others came as naturally to him as breathing. If he heard someone needed something, it often appeared on their doorstep the very next day. He never sought recognition, only the opportunity to make someone else's day a little easier.
Scouting was one of Ted's greatest passions. Over the years, he mentored countless young men, sponsored numerous Scouts, and quietly paid for summer camp so boys whose families were struggling would never miss the opportunity to participate. Even 35 years later, many of those Scouts stayed in touch, sending updates about their lives and families, relationships Ted treasured deeply. The lessons he taught extended far beyond camping and merit badges; they helped shape lives.
Ted also had a deep love for animals, and they seemed instinctively drawn to his gentle heart. He had the gift of conversation, effortlessly making everyone feel comfortable and valued. Whether meeting someone for the first time or reconnecting with an old friend, Ted had a remarkable ability to make people feel like family.
He loved to cook and found joy in bringing his family together around the dinner table, where food was always served with laughter and love. He was fascinated by technology and gadgets, always eager to learn about the newest innovations and share them with those around him. Ted also carried a profound love for Israel and immense pride in his family's Jewish heritage, values that remained close to his heart throughout his life.
The measure of a life is found not only in accomplishments, but in the lives touched along the way. Ted made the world a better place simply by being in it. His kindness, generosity, humor, wisdom, and steadfast love will continue to live on in the countless people fortunate enough to have known him.
Though our hearts are broken and he will be deeply missed by his family, friends, neighbors, and all whose lives he touched, we find peace in knowing that his suffering has ended and that he is now reunited with his beloved father.
His legacy is not only the family he adored but the countless acts of kindness, quiet generosity, and unconditional love that will continue to ripple through generations.
Forever our Dad. Forever our Pop. Forever in our hearts.
