Dorothy Lee Clements Lovell

DENISON – Dorothy L. Lovell, 85, of Denison went home to her Lord early Tuesday morning November 30, 2010 at Texoma Medical Center after a courageous struggle. She was surrounded by her loving family. Dorothy will be remembered for her beautiful smile and sweet loving personality. She was loved by all, even the nurses and therapists at TMC.

A memorial service for Dorothy will be held at 1 pm Saturday, December 11, 2010 at Waples Memorial United Methodist Church, 830 W. Main Street, Denison, Texas. Rev. Mike Nichols will officiate. Immediately following the service, family visitation will take place in the Waples Church parlor.

Dorothy was born on December 20, 1924 in Waco, Texas. She was the daughter of Dorothy Lindsey and Vern Clements. After graduating from high school, Dorothy attended Baylor University for Medical Laboratory Technology. After certifying, Dorothy was offered a job in California – where she moved and lived with her Aunt Lillian for several years. When she got homesick for Texas, she contacted a doctor friend in Waco and he gave her a lead on a job in Denison, Texas. When she first drove into Denison, it was during Denison’s Centennial Celebration with all the men in beards and mustaches. She thought she had arrived in the wild west. On her first date, with her later to be husband – Kenneth R. Lovell, he arrived in a horse drawn carriage that later ran away with them in it. There was almost not a second date, but they were eventually married on October 3, 1948. After the birth of their daughter, Dorothy and Ken began working together in their business of Lovell’s Plumbing. She continued working and keeping the books for the business that is now KLO Metal Company, Inc. till her death.

Dorothy was an active and supportive member of Waples Memorial United Methodist Church. She had been a member of the choir for many years, on various church committees and especially active during the building of the new church in the 1960’s. She attended Waples with her soon to be husband Ken, where she later joined and was a member of the Criterion Sunday School Class for over 60 hears.

She worked with her husband and the Denison Lions Club for many years. She was a charter member of the Denison Lioness Club and later of the Denison Texoma Lions Club. In early years, Dorothy loved to play Bridge and later played “42” dominos with friends. She and her husband loved to travel and did travel after the kids were grown. They traveled the world and their favorite spot was their condo in South Padre, where they loved to walk the beach, warm their feet in the sand and pick up shells.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Claudia of Denison; son Craig and wife, Susan of Denison; son Cliff and wife, Sharon of Denison; grandchildren, Cassie of Katy, TS; Blake, Karly, Chase all of Denison; and Ashley of Arlington; her brother-in-law Gordon Lovell and wife, Peggy of Decatur and two nephews and a niece. Dorothy’s special blessing and joy was her great-granddaughter, Kynleigh of Denison. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Kenneth R. Lovell.

Dorothy was a very devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She spent the last several years of her life caring for her husband until his death in January 2008. Her life was her family, her God and kindness for others. Her family will miss her greatly.
