

Frances Eleanor Johnson Bailey passed away July 21, 2016 in Denison, Texas. She was 92. Celebration of Life will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, July 27th, at Bratcher Funeral Home. Reception will follow. Henry H. Bucher, Jr., Ph.D., Austin College Chaplain Emeritus, will officiate.
Frances was born in Denison on December 19, 1923 to parents Roland Ray Johnson and Annie Mattie Hancock Johnson. She graduated from Denison High School in 1940, attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University, and in 1944, received a BBA with a major in Accounting from the University of Texas at Austin. In 1947, she married Robert Edward Bailey, Jr. The couple lived in Boulder, Colorado while he attended law school, returning to Denison in 1950. Together they had three children.
In 1966, Frances received a MA in Education from Austin College and began a twenty year career as Instructor in Accounting at Grayson County College. She was twice nominated for the Minnie Stevens Piper Professor Award for Excellence in Teaching. A steward of education, she served in many civic organizations and was the oldest charter member of the P.E.O. Chapter DI, Denison, Texas. She instilled a love of knowledge and made an indelible mark on hundreds of students throughout her teaching career.
Frances was raised in First Christian Church of Denison and was a member of First Baptist Church of Denison, where she taught youth and adult Sunday school classes.
Her grandchildren will remember her gift of time and support and interest in their lives. She faced adversity with courage and grace, and will always be, the remarkable woman that raised a family that has given and received her love in sunshine and in storm.
Frances is survived by daughter Barbara Bailey Parker and husband Andy of Collinsville, VA, daughter Lisa Bailey Foster of Sherman, granddaughter Kristin Miller Casner and husband Brian of Dallas, granddaughter Caitlin Miller of Dallas, grandson Drew Parker of Mount Airy, NC, and granddaughter Meredith Foster of Dallas. She is also survived by Jay and Laynie Miller of Crawford, TX, cousins Dorothy Hancock Campbell of Tulsa, OK, Pat Hancock Hubbard of Jenkins, KY, Ruth Woodward Armstrong of San Benito, TX, Marcia Hancock Paluska and husband Doug of Houston, TX, and Mark Hancock and wife Sandy of Gilead, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Roland Ray Johnson, Jr. (Sonny), daughter, Lynn Bailey Holland, and granddaughter, Alison Bailey Parker.
