Visitation will be 6:00PM to 8:00PM, Monday, November 19, 2012 at Bratcher Funeral Home in Denison, TX.
Funeral services will be 10:00AM, Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at Mt Pleasant Baptist Church, 2401 W. Morton St., Denison, TX, with Rev. Rusty Denny officiating and burial at Cedarlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 5805 Texoma Parkway, Sherman, TX, to follow.
Fred was born Friday, May 13, 1932 in Denison, TX to Lewis & Yuma (Prewitt) Pipkin. He graduated from Denison High School in 1949. He attended Paris Junior College for two years prior to enlisting in the Navy where he served four years before moving back to Denison in 1955. Fred worked for the Yellow Jacket Boat Company before hiring on at Safeway where he worked for 39 years before retiring in 1997.
He was an avid Yellow Jacket fan as he attended every game for over 45 years before he was too ill to attend this past season. He was also an avid fisherman, which he had great joy in doing. He loved to camp and for several years the family enjoyed being together at Sulphur, Oklahoma. He played slow pitch softball until the age of 65, enjoyed watching sports such as the Texas Rangers, Texas Longhorns and Dallas Cowboys. He was happy when he could play horseshoes and washers.
Fred was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church; he avidly loved to be involved with anything to do with the upkeep and loved to go on outings with the men’s group. He loved to sing praises to the Lord. Fred enjoyed traveling to Denton with the Denton Lunch Bunch and also enjoyed the Tuesday morning breakfast bunch until he was too ill to attend.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years Ruby, daughters Deborah and husband Mike Shearer of Denison, TX, Diana and husband Mike Sikes of Houston, TX, Linda John of Houston, TX, Paula and husband David Shaw of Sherman, TX, Joanna and husband Chet Spillers of Sherman, TX; sisters, Joyce Sikes of Denison, TX, Julia Brouer of Denison, TX; Fifteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Brother James Pipkin, sons Michael Byrd and Fred Pipkin II and longtime friend Jackie Walton.
