James Calvin Mauldin

December 20, 1947July 9, 2018

James “Calvin” Mauldin was born on December 20, 1947, the son of Jimmy Mauldin, a typesetter for the Denison and Sherman papers and Virginia Mauldin, a nurse.

He was a lover of cars from the first and over his life he worked as a mechanic, a buyer and reseller of his beloved Mustangs and a model builder of plastic cars.

He began his work life early as a paperboy for the Denison Herald from the age of twelve. As an adult, he was a salesman for Babcock Stores. However his true love was in writing. He wrote many historical stories for the Denison Herald and automobile articles for such magazines as Street Rodder, Super Ford, Rod and Custom, and Street Rod Pickups. Nationally, he was published over 100 times.

He is survived by his wife of almost 32 years, Debbie Mauldin; son Tim Mauldin and daughter-in-law Marina Mauldin.

He was a gentleman and a gentle man, kind hearted, honorable, humorous, and loyal. He will be greatly missed by family, friends , and his loyal readers. Calvin was a man of faith and he’s at rest, safe now, at home with the Lord in heaven. His legacy will live on though the lives he has touched. The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life Thursday, July 19th, from 2 P.M. to 4 P.M. at Unity Baptist Church. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at for the Mauldin family.

Sorry for your loss. Odell was my Uncle and I knew Calvin when I was younger. Him and his Dad were always nice to me especially when my dad passed away.

I met Calvin in 6th grade at Golden Rule. He was a great classmate. I left the area after that and did not come back until my senior year. I heard wonderful things about him and his life after that.
