James "Sonny" Paul Odom

Visitation will be Tuesday, August 6, 2013 from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M., at Bratcher Funeral Home.

Funeral Service will be Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at 10:00 A.M., at Bratcher Funeral Home Chapel, Denison, Texas. Burial will follow at West Hill Cemetery, Sherman, Texas with Jody Shires Sr. officiating.

Serving as pallbearers will be J. Odom, Royce Odom, Jamie Odom, Tony Odom, Keith Sims and John Huffenburger. Honorary pallbearer will be Horace Groff.

Sonny was born Friday, June 15, 1934 in Denison, Texas, the son of James Walter Odom and Rose (Shero) Odom. Attended Denison High School then worked many years in sales for Madden’s Department Store, followed with traveling sales for Manhattan Shirt Company. Sonny returned to his home town in 1980 as the new owner, operator of Preston’s Shoes on Main St. until 2000 when he retired. Some of Sonny’s hobbies included tennis with friends, coin collecting, and enjoyed fellowship with the coffee group at Nick’s Restaurant. He has been a longtime supporter of the Denison Yellow Jackets. Sonny always looked forward to family get-togethers over a meal and homemade ice cream. He would WOW everyone by riding a bicycle backwards, that talent has now been passed to other family members.

Sonny is survived by his wife Wanda Nelson Odom; children Paula Cloud, Rodney Odom, Stanley Odom, Tina Burnham and husband Doug, step-daughter Christina Rucker and husband Darrell. Grandchildren; J. Odom and wife Jennifer, Shelley Odom, Royce Odom, Russel Odom, Danielle Mitcheletti, Jamie Odom, Tony Odom, Jacob Burnham, Laith Burnham, step-grandchildren Gavin Rucker, Olivia Rucker; great-grandchildren Wyatt Odom, Payton and Jarred Mitcheletti.
