One of God’s original master pieces.
Born May 5, 1925 to Effie and Emmett Cottrell in Denison, Texas at the old Denison Hospital. She married Robert Potts on October 24, 1948 on her parents’ 25th anniversary at Trinity Methodist Church.
Maurine graduated from Denison High School in 1941 and remained an active member of the 1941 graduating class, helping plan all of their reunions. After graduation, she graduated from Draughon’s Business College in Dallas, Texas in 1942. She was offered a job in Washington D.C., but turned it down in order to be near her family. Maurine and her mother Effie joined BP&W at the same time. Family always came first with her.
She was a bookkeeper at Madden’s Dept. Store and Hanan Insurance Office, Conaster and Ormsby Oden Insurance Office and Cedarlawn Memorial Park before going to work for the Denison Public School system, where she retired in 1995. She and Robert enjoyed many activities in their younger years. One was boating and camping on Lake Texoma and for many years they had a cabin at the VFW. After they sold their cabin and Yellow Jacket boat, they started collecting antique cars and were charter members of the Denison Antique Car Club.
Maurine was the third generation member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of NARVE, P.T.A. and Eastern Star.
Maurine was an only child and had an only child. Her daughter, Barbara Booth, was the light of her life until she became the MeMe of twin grandsons, Joshua Lee and Brandon Ray Jarvis. She was the best and most loving grandmother that two boys could have asked for. She never missed out on their activities, being room mom and Camp Fire leader for Barbara and even traveling long distances to watch Brandon and Josh’s soccer games, where she became the adopted grandmother of the soccer team.
Maurine was spirited and loved to give her son-in-law, Brian Booth, a hard time, but all in love. She was fortunate enough to be blessed with one very special great-grandson, Benton Evan Jarvis. Even though she was an only child, she had sisters and brothers-in-law Wanda and Gene Ramey, Ruby and James Howell, Mary and Bill Baily and Sara and Richard Delgado and numerous nieces and nephews, close cousins Sydney Tucker, Betty Conly and Thelma Lee Cartwright.
She enjoyed reading and always had a book open and she and Brandon always had a puzzle going. She enjoyed taking Cherry Cokes to Josh and she carted many friends around Denison.
She was preceded in Heaven by her husband Robert Potts, grandson Josh Jarvis, parents Emmett and Effie Cottrell, mother and father-in-law Zenobia and Grady Potts and son-in-law Jimmy Evans.
She was the best mother, wife and grandmother a family could have ever asked for and she was the “queen bee”.
