Margie was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt. She and her husband, Newt Thomason, were married on September 9, 1949. They lived and loved each other for 52 years in the same cozy home, raising 3 children (and a lot of cane). Margie was a wonderful woman of faith who taught the Word to so many as a Sunday school teacher at Parkside Baptist Church for over 40 years. She and Newt were faithful members serving in many ministries, missions and committees throughout the years. Margie carried on with her Love Sunday school class and as an active member well after her cherished husband’s passing in 2002. She let her light shine as an example of her love for the Lord.
Margie was a career woman, amusing and informing local readers of the Denison Herald as the Woman’s Editor in her younger years, always full of wit and style. She settled into banking and retired as an officer with Bank of America after more than 20 years. She was known for always looking her best, her grace and southern charm ever apparent. She served her community and volunteered in several organizations including tenure as past president of the Denison Service League. Margie always supported her children when they were young whether in Boy Scouts, sports, theatre or choir. She participated in many activities and everyone hoped she would bring her talent for southern cooking along. She could light up a room with a coconut meringue pie. An invitation to dinner was much sought after at the Thomason table. She loved her family and friends, and they loved her so much in return. She took great joy in her grandchildren, great grandchildren and held her nieces and nephews as close to her heart as she did her own children.
Margie is survived in death by her sons; Dr. Robert Hays, II of Whitesboro, Jeff Thomason and his wife, Nina of Austin; daughter Jane Ann Epperly and her husband, Russell of Sherman, as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Margie is also survived by her younger sister, Mary Wallace of Terrell, whom she loved dearly. Margie was also preceded in death by her parents, her brother Deb Blake, and sister, Gelia Deihl, and first husband taken too soon, Robert E. Hays.
Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at Bratcher Funeral Home Chapel in Denison. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Denison.
