December 12, 1931November 8, 2013

Mary Louise Aday Layton, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on November 8, 2013. She spent her life dedicated in love to her husband and he to her and both were dedicated to their two sons. Mary was born in Whitesboro, TX, on December 12, 1931to Dean L. and Vera Aday. She graduated from Denison High School. In 1949 and married the love of her life, James (Jim) Layton of Denison (class of 1944) on January 28, 1950 at Trinity Methodist Church by Rev. W.O. Bucy. They resided in Denison where their two sons, Steve and David, were born. Mary was very proud of the fact that in her early marriage she had the opportunity to work as a nurse for Dr. R. G. Gerald for several years. In 1962, they moved to Borger, TX, where Jimmy accepted the position of City Tax Assessor and Collector for the City of Borger and during his career he held the positions of Manger of Administration of Water and Data Processing Departments, Municipal Court Judge, Assistant City Manager, and ultimately appointed as City Manager retiring in 1991. Mary began her career in Borger with First National Bank retiring in 1991 as Head Teller. While in Borger Mary and Jim enjoyed social activities at the Borger Country Club and the Borger Elks Lodge and she had fond memories of the wonderful dances and parties that she and Jim enjoyed as members of the Fantasia Dance Club. Especially enjoyed, were weekend with friends, Chuck and Margaret Bogan, in Red River, New Mexico. Upon both of their retirements in 1991, they returned to Denison to be closer to family and again established themselves within the community among many friends and family.

Mary loved to cook and found great joy in retirement sitting in her favorite chair reading cookbooks and finding new cake recipes that she would cook and share with family and friends. She was an excellent cook and baker. She loved flowers and each Spring and Fall all her flower beds would be full of beautiful and colorful flowers. She was a gracious lady to the end. She started each day with her make up meticulously applied, her hair beautifully coifed, and always adorned to her appearance was evident even when she was busy in her kitchen. This past year when at times she was very ill she always made sure she presented herself as a true lady. Mary leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband Jim; her two sons, Steve and fiancé Karen Robertson, of Dallas, David and wife Pam of Borger; her granddaughter Kimberly of Tucson, AZ; her loving and caring sister-in-law ZoAnn Aday of Denison; her loving and caring brother-in-law Howard Minor of Broken Bow, OK; and nephews: Jeff Aday, Travis Aday, Larry Dean Minor, Lynn Minor, John Aday, Terry Aday , and Mike Aday and a host of friends. John & Kathy Aday - sending my thoughts to you on the loss of your Aunt Mary. Rest easy that she's not 'gone'; only in a different, much better place, that God Almighty has promised for His flock. May this help ease the loss that you feel at a sorrowful time in life.
