

Morris was born on July 6, 1927 in Denison, Texas to Leslie Homer Gaines and Edna Grisham Gaines. He was a lifelong member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. He graduated from Denison High School in 1945 and served in the Army towards the end of the World War II and during the Korean War.
He met and married Sue Murphy in 1954, and in their 56 years together, they raised five children. Morris provided for his family by working at SCM Allied Ergy in Denison until he retired in 1989. After retirement, Morris helped care for the children who attended their daycare and later worked as a home health aide. Nothing made Morris happier than being with family, of which he had many.
Morris is preceded in death by his wife, Sue Gaines, and parents Leslie Homer Gaines and Edna Grisham Gaines.
He is survived by his sister Katherine Slagle of Denison; brother Leslie Gaines, Jr. of Milburn, Alabama; sister Mary Garvin of Denison; son Jim Gaines and wife Teresa, of Luella; daughters Dena Hill of Sherman, Cyndee Bohlman and husband, Paul, of Carrollton, Myndee Barron of Sherman, Theresa Chacon and husband, David, of Garland; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two more great-grandchildren on the way; his ever loyal dog, Mortz and a very special friend Myla Welsh.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, November 25 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Rev. Rob Hivley officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service.
Pallbearers will be Shane Hill, Paul Bohlman, Seth Bohlman, David Chacon, Nicholas Chacon, and Cole Shull.
