NELDA C. (RIDINGER) WRIGHT

Nelda Carolyn Wright was born March 9, 1944 in Sherman, Texas to Vernon and Lou Ella Ridinger and left this world to enter her heavenly home May 14, 2018 in Imperial, Missouri. Nelda graduated from Denison High School and Grayson County College, where she obtained an Associate Degree.

She married Sidney Wright of Denison, Texas, August 18, 1969. Together, they raised four children, who were the “Light of their lives.”

Nelda's career began with MKT Railroad in Denison, Texas in 1962. In 1989, she and Sid transferred to St. Louis to continue their careers with Union Pacific Railroad in St. Louis, MO. She retired from Union Pacific Railroad in 2004, after a career of over 40 years. She then began volunteering as a Tax Preparer for AARP Tax Aid, (loving it) until 2017, when she was physically unable to continue. Her hobbies included traveling with her siblings (and spouses), eventually fulfilling her dream of visiting all 50 states. She was an avid reader, worked Sudoku and crossword puzzles, and watched old TV shows, as well as loving to cook.

She is preceded in death by husband Sid, her parents, and sister-in-laws Wanda and Shirley Ridinger. She is survived by her four children: Trudy Jo Karley (Matt) of Keller, TX, Gerald Franklin McAden of St. Louis, MO, Rhonda Renee' Volz (Mark) of Imperial, MO, Darla Michelle Becker (Scott) of Cedar Hill, MO; and a step-daughter: Tonya Wilson (Scott) of Wills Point, TX. Grandchildren: Jessica and Johnathan Karley, Jenna Volz, Karly and Sidney Becker, and Cameron and Corey Wilson; and great-grandchild Brooke Wilson. Siblings: Glenda Overturf (Bobby), Brenda Spillman (Raymond), Bill Ridinger (Marie), Lonnie Ridinger (Linda), Ralph Ridinger (Doris) and Jerry Ridinger; along with numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. She was loved by all!

Family visitation will be from 6-8:00 P.M., Sunday, May 20th at Bratcher Funeral Home, 401 W. Woodard St., Denison, TX. A church service will be at 10:00 A.M., Monday, May 21st at the East Baptist Church, 311 N. 5th St., Denison, TX 75020, with Bro. Danny Wood and Bro. Brett Castle officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Sherman.

Pallbearers will be nephews: Ridingers – Dale, Bart, Lee, and Troy; Brian Overturf, and David Spillman.

I have so many great memories with Aunt Nelda and her family.

Growing up, we would go on family vacations together. My favorite ones were when we would camp on the Buffalo River and our side trips to Branson. Every year we added a new crazy story...

One year our van broke down in the middle of no where (conveniently after we dropped the boys to go canoeing). We finally found a garage to look at the van. We (really Glenda aka Mom & Aunt Nelda) couldn’t understand what they were saying was wrong with the van. After the mechanic repeated himself several times, Nelda started snickering because she figured out what he was saying. I remember mom and Nelda laughing so hard.

On another side trip to Branson, we forgot our side-trip suitcase. We had spent the day in Silver Dollar City and were a sweaty mess with no clean clothes. I can’t remember where we washed clothes but I remember drying clothes with the hand dryer in the bathroom.

We also had a lot of fun sitting around the campfire and singing. We had made friends with some people who were there every year at the same time we were and they played guitar.

I have included a favorite pic I have on my pantry door...fun time playing putt-putt at a family reunion.

I have so many great, fun memories with Aunt Nelda and will miss her terribly. I am relieved she is no longer suffering. I know she now has a new body and healthy lungs and has been reunited with sweet Uncle Sid. God bless them.

I pray for comfort and peace for all.

Hugs & love,
Denise (one of many nieces)

We sat together for many years at the Katy and then after we moved to St. Louis, you lovingly invited all of Katy friends over for Thanksgiving dinners every year. We got together in your home on Sundays to watch our Dallas Cowboys and cheer them on. I am so saddened by your passing. You were a loving, kind, caring lady who will be missed by everyone who truly knew you, RIP, I love you, Nelda

We were so fortunate to be able to share our homes over the last 14 years. I will sure miss her smile, her wit and most of all her company. We loved to play words with friends and watch Matlock together. Our hearts are heavy and she will surely be missed. Love you Nelda.
