Ruth Catherine Baker

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Bratcher Funeral Home in Denison with Rev. Earl Oglesbee officiating. Burial will be at Cedarlawm Memorial Park in Sherman, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Michael Cowell, Jr., Brian Whitley, Chris Baker, Nicholas Baker, Eddie Lindsey and Jamie Barnes.

Ruth was born December 29, 1932 in Brodhead, Wisconsin to Percy & Hulda Whitehead. She married Marvin Cowell is 1953 and they had one son Michael Cowell, Sr. They were married for 21 years before Marvin’s death. They moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, where they lived for 10 years. They moved back to Texas in 1995.

Ruth married George Harold Baker on May 25, 1975. She loved to babysit grandkids; loved animals and loved to travel. Her favorite hobby was doll collecting. She was a Christian and a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Ruth was preceded in death by her mother and father; sister Lavina Felber; brothers Clifford Whitehead and Rolf Whitehead and husband George Baker.

She is survived by son Michael Cowell, Sr. & wife Lorna Cowell and their son Michael Cowell, Jr. of Las Vegas, Nevada; step-daughter Cindi Stapelton & husband Loyd of Ontario, Canada; step-son Dale Baker & wife Sherry of Sherman; step-son Joe Baker & wife Toni; 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
